In today’s delicate world of pressing issues of Global Warming and Climate Change, the significance of renewable sources of energy can not be overstated. Biogas is one such renewable and non-polluting source of energy, which can help rural families augment their family income, contribute towards reducing air pollution, help save time spent on cooking and provide natural manure for farming.

Biogas

Humana People to People India supported by UFF Finland and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA, Finland) has since 2010 constucted 616 Biogas plants in 100 rural villages in Dausa district in the northwest Indian state of Rajasthan. The plants were constructed over two phases under projects titled “Biogas as renewable energy source in Indian villages” (phase 1) from 2010-2012 and “Biogas for Enhanced Quality of Life” (phase 2) from 2014-2016.

Realizing the great impact of the first two phases of the project, UFF Finland and MFA, Finland awarded HPPI the third phase of the project, to be implemented over a two year period, starting November 2017. The project titled “Access to Clean Energy, Improved Agriculture Practices & Better Income through Biogas Plants” will be implemented in 60 villages of Dausa district, in the blocks Dausa and Bandikui. The project aims to construct 200 plants over the course of two years, whereof 47 plants have already been constructed.

Additionally the project aims to continue working with women’s Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Farmer’s Clubs in the area. Through these groups improved animal husbandry will be promoted as a sustainable income generating activity.
