On 27th March, HPPI, along with 42 other organisations from around the world, participated in a momentous event at the New York Public Library, organised by its partner, Education Above All (EAA) Foundation to celebrate securing the commitment to get 10 million children back to school.

The event was hosted by EAA Foundation along with UNICEF. Representatives from HPPI included Snorre Westgaard, CEO and Ved Prakash Yadav, member of the Board of Directors. Her Highness Sheika Moza Bint Nasser, UN SDG advocate and Founder and Chairperson of EAA Foundation, made an important announcement on the first day of the event.  She said that while 6 million children worldwide have already been enrolled into schools, the commitment to reach a total of 10 million has also been secured through partnerships.

HPPI has partnered with EAA since 2016, to get out of school children trained through Kadam Step-Up Programme and enrolled in mainstream schooling. Till now, the partnership has enrolled 29,244 children in the Step Up centres, whereof 10,312 have been mainstreamed into age-appropriate grades. Each child is observed closely for 6 months after their enrolment in the school, to ensure retention and continued enrolment.

The event brought together high-level attendees such as the Secretary General United Nations, Mr. Antonio Guterres, Executive Director of UNICEF Ms. Henrietta Fore, the President of Ghana, Mr. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and model and philanthropist, Ms. Naomi Campbell. The event also hosted international and local NGOs, development agencies, development banks, governments and private sector companies from Bangladesh, Brazil, India, Kenya, Palestine, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.
