On the 15th of June 2018, HPPI signed a three-year partnership with Rural India Supporting Trust (RIST) to implement Kadam+ in four districts of Uttar Pradesh, namely Jhansi, Gorakhpur, Meerut and Allahabad.

Kadam+ is a holistic learning initiative, developed as an extension of HPPI’s out-of-school programme ‘The Kadam Step-Up Programme’. The programme aims to bridge the learning gaps in both out-of-school and in-school children through the Kadam methodology. The RIST project will be implemented in extension of HPPI’s Necessary Teacher Training Programme (NeTT) schools in the four districts, to further augment the quality of education in local primary schools. The NeTT programme is implemented in government-run teacher training colleges, in close cooperation with the Department of Education, Government of Uttar Pradesh.

In each district 20 Kadam Centres will be opened, to identify and enroll out-of-school children (OOSC), aiming to mainstream them back into school within a year of their enrolment. Across the three years this will result in 9,600 OOSC being equipped with the skills and knowledge to continue their education.

Alongside, the project will work to bridge the learning gaps in 24,000 government primary school children across the three years, by training teachers on using the Kadam methodology for remedial learning. Ultimately, 1200 teachers will receive training in 240 government primary schools. The initial orientation of the project staff took place during August 2018, and the project is now in it’s initial phases of commencement.
