On August 29, Humana People to People India, in partnership with Hero MotoCorp and United Nations Development Programme India, organised a felicitation event for the Business Sakhis under the Jeevika project in Bhiwani, Haryana. Under this project, women receive entrepreneurial start-up training, that equips them with the right set of skills, tools and linkages to resources such as microfinance loans to become a successful entrepreneur.

Business Sakhis or Biz-Sakhis are women entrepreneurs who have undergone extensive entrepreneurship development trainings and are also equipped to mentor and guide women from their communities to start and/or scale up their businesses.

More than 350 women, many of whom are entrepreneurs under the Project, and 42 Business Sakhis participated in the event which was inaugurated by Chief guest Mr. Sujan Singh, IAS -Deputy Commissioner, Bhiwani, Mr. Satish Kumar, HCS- Sub Divisional Magistrate, Bhiwani and Mr. Ram Singh, District Development & Panchayat officer, Bhiwani.

Following the inauguration, established entrepreneurs from previous phases of the Project set up stalls at the venue to display their products. All the guests, the participating women entrepreneurs, the Business Sakhis (Biz-Sakhis) along with HPPI and Hero MotoCorp staff visited the stalls and appreciated the variety of products and enterprises.

This was followed by a felicitation ceremony where 42 Biz-Sakhis were awarded with a sewing machine, a memento and other gifts by the honourable guests.

The esteemed panel of guests addressed the women in the audience and motivated them with their speeches. Mr. Hari Nilesh from Chief Minister's Good Governance Associates, Haryana said, “Women already have a very strong will and I truly believe that with education and with an opportunity to be financially independent, they will be more empowered and will be liberated.”

Mr. Vijay Sethi, Head Corporate Social Responsibility, Chief Human Resources Officer, Mr. Rajesh Mukhija, Sr. Advisor, Hero Moto Corp Ltd. and HPPI team also participated in the event and motivated the women to continue their hard work and to be financially independent and empowered.
