Moderated by HPPI CEO, Mr Snorre Westgaard, the webinar saw the presence of keynote speaker Shri Vijay Kiran Anand (IAS), Director General School Education, Uttar Pradesh, Mr Anil Swarup (IAS) from NoG and representatives from state education volunteers, non-profit organisations and civil bodies.

NoG webinar

In his keynote address, Vijay Kiran Anand, IAS, Director General of School Education in Uttar Pradesh, drew attention to the huge drop-out rate amongst minorities, and backward and scheduled communities. Among specially abled children it was found to be around 30% with a low transition rate from primary to upper secondary.

In one of the sessions moderated by Priti Grover from HPPI, representatives from Haryana and Madhya Pradesh spoke about out-of-school children (OOSC) and drop outs, especially among girls. Mrs Rajwant Kaur, Associate Consultant / Programme in Charge OOSC in Haryana, talked about efforts made in Haryana for universal access to education. The state government, in partnership with HPPI in 2016, started several bridge courses to eliminate the drop-out rates due to difference in learning levels in students. During the pandemic, the state carried out another survey to include children of returning migrants and ran Special Training Centres to educate them.
